Creating a Lead Capture Page

To Create a Lead Capture Page that is eye catching and effective is the goal of every person or business with a product or service to sell online. Often referred to as ‘Squeeze Pages’, Lead Capture Pages do just what they say; they capture pertinent information from the viewer that then becomes a lead for future marketing.

Creating the perfect page is not always that simple. Having an eye grabbing headline is essential to any successful page. It needs to grab their attention and make them want to read more. For example have a look at the following headlines; Make Ten Thousand Dollars While You Are Asleep. Or, Lose Weight While You Are Asleep. Both of these examples would get me a little curious and make me want to read more.

Then you need show who you are and why people should listen to you. Offer them proof as to why you are an authority in your field. One of the best ways to do this is by adding a video message to your page. Not only does this let people see who you really are, it shows them that you are sincere and will help improve your overall image with your audience.

Then you need to offer them a “quick glimpse” into what they can expect if they add their details to your page. Just show them enough to say “I have the answers” but be careful not to offer too much. For example, “what are the secrets that rich people don’t want you to know?” Or, “What is the one food that will get rid of fat quickly?” Questions like this will give the reader information without giving them the answer.

The next part is the most important on the page. Creating your “call to action” This is where you gather the information; make it clear what they will get if they add their details to the “opt in” box. Make sure you don’t ask for too much information as this can put people off in this day and age.

The minimum you will need is email address and first name of the contact. I would also recommend an “anti-spam” logo and privacy policy on the page to improve your credibility and trust.

It is important to get your capture page right first time. If you are yet to gain the experience in creating a great page when I would recommend using a professional until you are happy with your own work.

Are You Making This Huge Mistake When It Comes to List Building?

Most beginning marketers know in their heads that the money is in the list but few will begin building a list in the beginning. Once they do start, they are likely to just put an opt in box in the sidebar of their blog and call it good.

This is one of the biggest mistakes you can make in list building. When people come to your site there is so much information for them to read, and actions for them to take, you lose a lot of subscribers by only having your opt in information on your website. The best way to build a list, and convert your traffic from lookers to subscribers is to create an opt in page.

What is an opt in page?

An opt in page aka squeeze page is a page you set up with one intention, and one intention only ~ to get someone to sign up to your list. That’s the only thing you want them to do, that’s the only choice you make available. They either sign up or they click the back button. It is a short page, with just enough information to get them to enter their information.

Creating an opt in page will increase your subscriber rate enormously. Since there are only two options to get off the page, sign up or click the back button, you will find most people will opt in to get your gift or ecourse. If you are providing a nice incentive (gift) for them to give you their email address, most people wont say no.

What are the pieces of an opt in page?

Being such a simple page the opt in page does not have many elements. The first must have element is a freebie to give to your subscribers. This is a free report or an ecourse you create or have created for you. This will be given to the subscriber in exchange for their email address and name. This does not have to be a huge ebook, but it does have to have some perceived value.

The second element on your squeeze page is your headline. This is where you grab their attention and make them want to keep reading. This is what lets them know if you what you have is a match to what they are looking for. Here’s an example of one of my well converting squeeze page headlines. “Learn from a Giant Squid How to Make Squidoo work for You” Learn step by step how to choose a topic, find great products to promote, set up a new squidoo lens and start making money!…” This is for a 10 day ecourse on how to use squidoo to make money. This site converts quite well because people come looking for how to do squidoo and that’s just what this page offers.

A quick list of benefits people will receive from opting in, what they will learn, how it will help them to know the information provided. You can do this in a bullet point list, which makes them very clear and accessible. Make sure you are talking about benefits, from the reader’s perspective, how is your information going to help them?

The last thing you need is an opt in box. This is created by your autoresponder service. Add a title and mention your free report or ecourse within the opt in box, then have space for them to fill in their name and email address. Once you’ve done that the autoresponder will create the code for you opt in box, and all you have to do is copy and paste it into your opt in page.

Yes, an opt in page is just one simple page, with a few elements, but it is also a very powerful tool. If you want to increase the conversion rate from readers to subscribers an opt in page is a must have tool.

Landing Page Themes

Perhaps the most important part of creating a landing page is planning your landing page theme. How you select your theme, of course, will depend on how you plan to generate traffic.

If you decide to generate traffic through search engine optimization, planning your landing page theme will entail finding phrases within your niche which have a high demand (aggregate search value) and a low supply (small amount of competing sites) and then creating multiple landing pages, each being optimized around a different phrase.

If you decide to generate traffic through pay per click (PPC) programs, such as Adwords, planning your landing page theme will again entail tuning a number of different pages to fit the keywords you are purchasing.

This is actually where people fail when they create a landing page: they don’t tune it to fit a specific audience. For instance, in the case of a squeeze page for a newsletter, they might start a newsletter about toys, but they only create one landing page and send all traffic to it. This is a big mistake.

If you create a quality product or newsletter, it can benefit a number of people. So why not communicate the exact benefits they will derive from subscribing or buying? If, for instance, you have a newsletter about legos and toy blocks, so you group it under the loose heading of toys, a visitor who is looking specifically for information about either legos or toy blocks will click off your page if they don’t see the direct connection to the exact topic for which they were searching.

Instead, you could set up a page centered around legos and a page centered around toy blocks. On each page, you will want to communicate the specific benefits to joining the list for each of those groups of visitors.

Going one step further, in addition to planning your landing page theme, if you are creating a landing page for a newsletter, you may also want to segment your list, so you can send information specifically about legos to those who request it ” and information about blocks to those who request it.
